Finding the perfect location for your family photo session may feel like an impossible task! There are so many great places to choose from in the Austin area! I’ve put together a little guide to choosing a location, along with some suggestions for my favorite places to go explore!
Canyon Overlook Park
In Austin it may feel like we are hours from the beach, but did you know we have a spot with a beachy vibe just perfect for your next family session?
I love taking families to Canyon Overlook Park! The waterfront access lets us get photos with a beachy vibe – and on days that it isn’t too busy, getting photos in the water makes for a nice cool way to capture your family! There are also grassy fields that allow us to capture a couple of different views during your session. The best part about this location is the views at sunset. The colors are unreal! You have to admit there is just something about a Texas sunset, am I right?
City of Bee Cave Central Park
If country fields make your heart pitter-patter then City of Bee Cave Central Park will have your heart thumping! This space is filled with the most beautiful light and two fields to choose from. For you greenery lovers, there is a gorgeous green field to frolic in with your family. If taller grasslands are your thing this park has those too! There is an easy walking path to move between locations and lots of room for your children to run and be themselves!
You love our city, so getting a family photo with the iconic skyline is a must! Butler Park is the perfect location with its green, grassy areas all backed with that City of Austin skyline view! There is even a fun hill perfect for racing and rolling down and a pond for some additional variety in your family photos!
I really enjoy the Long Center for its skyline views with an urban vibe. There are fun architectural elements that add a lot of interest to images. This is a great location if you want to dress things up a little as the urban element gives the feel of a night on the town! We can still get some greenery using the lawns around the grounds as well!
Want a location where you can dip your toes in the water and snuggle on a blanket in the grass? This location is perfect for family picnics with its green lawns and the most glorious old Live Oak Tree! Can’t you just picture your family playing underneath its branches?!
Having your photo session in an outdoor shopping mall might seem unconventional, but this spot has some hidden gems just begging to be photographed! If you love color, then the rainbow staircase is a must! I also love the urban vibe that the storefronts offer and there are even walking trails around the perimeter of the shopping center giving us lots of opportunities to capture different backgrounds during your session!
Lake Kyle and Plum Creek Preserve
Are you an early bird? This location’s morning light is incredible so I only photograph there for sunrise sessions! There is plenty of open space to run and play and the sweetest little pond if your children like feeding the ducks! There is even a small dock extending over the water perfect for dangling bare feet over the water!
I love this location for a slow leisurely walk down their spacious paved trails! The water views are pretty epic too, but may not be best for small children as the drop off into the water is a bit precarious! The tree-lined trails though are perfect for any age!
Pennybacker Bridge
One of Austin’s most iconic landmarks is the drive-through arch of Pennybacker Bridge. It makes a beautiful backdrop for any session, not to mention the framing of green trees makes it feel extra lush!
